Wheel inspection

Summary :

In 2015, TTInspect revamped a 14 year old wheel monitoring system designed to DSB’s Copenhagen commuter rail trains. The system utilises the fact that a train with perfectly rounded wheels deposits less energy in the rails than a train with “flat” wheels. The system consists of 2 x 21 accelerometers mounted to the rails, including 8 wheel sensors and one signal handling processor that detects the energy deposited in the rails whenever a train passes. The system’s RFID reader can identify the condition of each single wheel, allowing the supervisor to take immediate action in order to prevent damage to the train or the tracks.
